Local Sights - Limpley StokeThe home of Iona Cottage, the village of Limpley Stoke is located approximately 6 miles from Bath on the southern edge of the Cotswolds - an "area of outstanding natural beauty".
The location of the village is perfect
for visiting the main attarctions in the area, and boasts a variety of amenities to ensure a pleasant stay. Excellent road links, mean that it is easy to travel to Bath, Bristol or even London. However, if you prefer to take the train, the nearest railway station is a short stroll away at Freshford.
There are two pubs in Limpley Stoke - The Rose and Crown and the Hop Pole Inn (pictured) - both of which are within a few minutes walk of the cottage. The Hop Pole Inn comes highly recommended, With its large secluded garden and relaxed friendly atmosphere, it is a classic example of a truly English Village Inn with an enviable reputation for superb food, complemented by an excellent range of hand drawn cask ales. The nearest restaurant is Nightingales. This is a delicious Italian restaurant ideal for a romantic night out or for a family gathering.
Other attractions in the village can be seen by taking the Limpley Stoke village walk along designated footpaths (click here for map). Sites include the historical St. Mary's Church (which dates back to 13th century), and many of the quaint neighbouring villages such as Freshford. Close to the village there are some beautiful scenic walks along the attractive Kennet and Avon canal. Whilst for the more active among you, the excellent Sustrans National cycle route serves the area, providing a safe and pleasant route for cyclists.
Other attractions include the American museum which features period displays of American life, and is set in grounds which command beautiful views across the valley.
